John is passionately committed to enhancing the learning and life chances of children and young people, through school improvement and the professional development of individuals and organizations.

A former secondary school senior leader, John led the transformation of a theory-driven, evidence-informed health education research project from Exeter University to eventually involve 200+ schools across the UK and overseas, with unique evidence of health benefits and educational improvement. 

An independent educational consultant since 2006, John has enjoyed repeat commissions supporting educational improvement, including roles as a Regional Advisor for the PSHE Association and the National PSHE CPD programme.

John taught in an inner-city, multicultural middle school before being promoted to a head of PE role in a secondary school in Devon. John was swiftly promoted to head of year and eventually deputy head teacher with responsibility for "the pastoral curriculum" behaviour and staff CPD. (1982 - 1994)

He led the development of an evidence-informed, theory-driven two-school research project in health education at Exeter University to eventually involve 200+ Schools across the UK and overseas. This project demonstrated unique evidence of improvements in young people's knowledge, attitudes and statistically significant evidence of behaviour change. (1994 - 2006)
